When famous male model Luke Morelli returns to his hometown of Daimsbury in Surrey, he doesn’t expect to cross paths with a walking calamity named Missy Taylor. Within minutes of meeting her, she’s got him out of commission with a broken toe. It’s obvious he should steer clear of the troublemaker...but something about Missy intrigues him, making him want to know her better.

Texas transplant Missy Taylor is running away from the privileged life she has known in the US South. Her real identity is under wraps, but Luke Morelli stands the risk of uncovering her lies and half truths the more he stays in the village.

Her secret concerns him, in fact, but Luke doesn’t have a clue what the truth could imply should Missy’s true identity be discovered.

This girl is definitely trouble ... for him ...

A Girl Named Trouble The Daimsbury Chronicles Book 2 edition by Zee Monodee Contemporary Romance eBooks

Missy has secrets. She ran away from a life of privilege because she felt numb and stifled by her family's expectations. She's been spending the past 10 months trying to figure out who she really is and what she wants of life. Though hailing from Texas, she ended up in the village of Daimsbury in England. This is due to a conversation she had with Luke Morelli when she was 15; Luke was the only person to really pay attention and listen to her like she mattered. Daimsbury is his hometown and she remembered him saying that it holds magic. They meet again when he comes home for a short visit with his brother.

Luke seems too good to be true --unspoiled and unpretentious even though he's one of the most successful male models in the business. While there are layers to Missy, it didn't seem like there were layers to Luke. He's just an all-round good guy. This is not a bad thing but it did make him look like a more one-dimensional character next to Missy.

I think this is the first time that I've read a story based on a character concealing his or her true identity and wasn't bothered by it. I normally feel frustrated with this kind of plot because it's so OBVIOUS that the deception will fall apart sooner or later, and I usually find myself holding my breath waiting impatiently for the inevitable Big Reveal. You know it's coming, it's just a matter of when and how. But in this case I found myself distracted by the REASONS why Missy was trying to conceal her identity -- her desperation to carve out her own life on her own terms, her determination not to just fall in with what her parents want, her isolation as she starts a new life and hugs the truth of her identity to herself. Maybe also because she didn't start off intending to deceive Luke and once she realized how deeply she felt for him, she decided to tell him the truth; she is courageous and honest. But will Luke recognize this or will he hold her deception against her?

I think what prevented this from being a five-star read is that I felt Missy's story was a little unfinished. She hasn't figured out who she is and what she wants to do with her life. Her story with Luke ends in a HFN (happy for now) but there is no epilogue so we don't see how it all works out between them -- this is pertinent because Luke constantly travels for work, so will she stay in Daimsbury and continue building her new life or accompany him on his travels and risk losing her sense of self again? I also felt a bit confused with the timelines in this story as sometimes they seemed to jump around a bit -- like in the beginning when Missy flashbacks to her fifteen-year-old self's meeting with Luke. It wasn't clear how long ago that meeting had taken place and how old she is in the present day. I also wasn't sure how long she's been in Daimsbury because although she left Texas 10 months ago, she didn't go directly to Daimsbury. And what happened in London? Why did her friend just leave her like that? A plus point, the editing in this book was mainly good although I caught a few strange word choices (like a "maître d' pulpit"!).

At the end of the book, the author mentions that this is part of a series focusing on the various residents of Daimsbury. I might look up the other books in this series.

A Girl Named Trouble The Daimsbury Chronicles Book 2 edition by Zee Monodee Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews

A little too saccharin sweet for my tastes. Perfect guy with a heroine in hiding. A plot line I've read a thousand times over. The biggest flaw is the hero is so perfect that there is no depth to him. No waves in his past. No bad boy moment that makes him turn to the perfect poster boy. He's just a cookie cutter kind of guy.

The heroine is slightly overdrawn. This is something I've come to expect from this author. Zee Monodee just loves to make her heroines into these stereotypical creatures who either have an overbearing mother, a mother whose child snubs her, or a gal who just can't live with her personal decisions. Her heroines come out pretty much the same.

I like this author's writing style. It is an easy read. Still, the problems continue.

Three stories read. Done with this author.
